Signature Speed
The signature Cheetah speed comes from Scag's heavy-duty
Dual Hydro-Gear ZT-5400 drive system. It was designed just for Scag's commercial mowers. Speed is a top priority, but not the only one. The drive is also designed to last, with large cooling fans to prevent overheating and heavy-duty taper axles, shafts, bearings, and gears.
The Cheetah drive system offers two mowing speed ranges: Low Range (up to 12 miles/hour) and High Range (up to 16 miles/hour). Shifting between the two speeds is controlled by a swash plate angle to change fluid volume, so there are no actual “gears” to shift. You can switch between Low Range and High Range quickly without hurting the system.
Fantastic Features
Scag describes the Cheetah as their most comfortable lawn mower. The feature that makes this possible is the
Operator Suspension System. This system uses a coil-over shock to isolate the operator platform and rubber iso-mounts to isolate the seat. It's a less complicated system than the suspensions found on many other mowers, yet reliably suspends the entire operator platform for a smoother ride.

Deck Design
The Cheetah mowers use Scag's
Tri-Plate Velocity Plus cutting deck. The Tri-plate construction results in a sturdy cutting deck nearly 1/2-inch thick at the top. The design utilizes a Custom-Cut baffle system that lets you customize the cutter deck's baffle for different cutting conditions, and helps ensure you don't miss any blades of grass when cutting. The baffles also increase discharge velocity so grass clippings are flung out evenly rather than clumping on the lawn.
For side-discharge, you can get the Velocity Plus deck in the following sizes:
48-inches,
52-inches,
61-inches, and
72-inches. It is also available with a 61-inch
rear discharge deck. They all include the same sturdy design and long-lasting features. Cast-iron spindles, wear pads on the sides of the deck, and self-adjusting belts keep the deck working at peak efficiency and protect it from damage.
